4 days with the kids in their home, visiting, playing games, watching World Cup games and playing soccer with them in their new gear that was generously donated by members of our Club. They were fortunate to have power and a TV, that had previously been donated, and were able to watch many games. The "New Hope" kids especially liked to watch the USA and Brazil teams. The place got very loud on occasions when those teams were doing well in the game that was on.
By all accounts the trip was successful with their mission: to raise spirits, hope, and friendships through the game of soccer. The 22 children at NEW HOPE were very thankful and wasted no time in putting their soccer gear to good use. The "New Hope Team" had a great day on the soccer field running free, trying some new tricks, and scoring a few great goals! (The goats were just used as extra defenders when they were on the field) The remaining donated clothes and equipment will be distributed to other orphanages and villages through the connections of Pastors there who are all working hard to better the deplorable situation in Haiti. Dozens of other children will get to feel like "soccer players" in their new gear and cleats and the accompanying joy that comes with it. The "Hands On" actions of these Pastors, and Teachers are what will be the difference for a brighter future for this country, as they care for and teach the younger generation of Haitians.
Dynamo Soccer Club wishes to thank all those who donated items for this cause, to know that it was appreciated greatly by the kids and the adults who care for them at the home. The "New Hope" kids are very well cared for, and being taught very well in all areas. Many spoke English already, others are learning. Many were often doing extra homework on their own, long past their lesson time, as they are aware of what awaits them when they get older and will be outside their current protective walls. They are all very bright, respectful and full of hopes and dreams for themselves. We look forward to finding opportunities in the future to continue to assist both the Mission Board, Teachers, Pastors and leaders, as well as the children to achieve their goals of making Haiti a brighter place in the future. There is still a big need for assistance as "New Hope" wishes to continue the high level of care and also expand and eventually move to a place where they can have room to take in more children to care for since there is so many that are in need of a safe place to be.
